History
Founded in 1989, Sea Ventures Inc. is a veteran-owned small business. Sea Ventures’ Founder and President, Peter Seufert, has extensive service as a Program/Project Manager for the Department of Defense and Civilian sectors. Although he originally established Sea Ventures as a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Dive Center providing safe and fun SCUBA diving experiences throughout the Spanish Virgin Islands, it has quickly grown into a world class marine response organization.
Sea Ventures’ Marine Response Unit (MRU) originally performed all forms of voluntary reef conservation, including “no-take” education efforts, ghost trap release and recovery, sea turtle rescues, and fish counts. Over the past 25 years, the MRU has thrived in the environmental consulting industry and expanded to provide scientific diving services to government, non-profit, and private sector clients.
Team
The MRU is a team of globally recognized marine science and response experts who provide a wide array of services from emergency response to vessel groundings to coral nursery development and reef restoration. Our team is comprised of Sea Ventures staff and consultants from our long-term partnerships with other businesses, including minority-owned, veteran-owned, and woman-owned small businesses.
President Peter Seufert and Vice President Pedro Rodriguez guide MRU’s team of expert scientists and certified divers. Our team’s marine scientists specialize in coral reef ecology; oceanography; and protected species management, including threatened and endangered sea turtle, fish, and coral species conservation. Our divers include certified scientific divers, commercial divers, dive masters, dive instructors, and American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) divers. All of our divers are also certified rescue divers, emergency oxygen providers, and First Aid/CPR providers.
The MRU team also includes terrestrial scientists skilled in watershed management and ocean engineers who conduct marine remediation and salvage, including derelict vessel removal. Support staff includes vessel captains, deckhands, and restoration technicians.
Each of our highly experienced professionals has a strong passion for restoring degraded habitats, fostering environmental stewardship, and promoting a conservation ethic in our communities.
